LRGWG2: Trade Union Strategies for Remunicipalisation - Daniel Papps

Daniel Papps is Manager of industrial rules governance and compliance at United services union which is one of the largest municipal unions in Australia and a member of the Australia Services Union national Centre. He is also the Chair of the campaign Council services by Council workers. A campaign which looks at kickstarting remunicipalization efforts in new South Wales.

Local elections were held on 4 December 2021 and Daniel talks about the results, how the union has capitalized on that result, what has been learned on the way. One key feature of the campaign was to ask candidates running for office in local government to sign up to a very clear pledge, a clear commitment not to use precarious work in Council services.

This presentation is part of the 2022 workshop of the PSI Global LRG Network’s Working Group on Remunicipalisation/In-sourcing (WG2).
