The fourth issue of "The Future is Public" is out - a KPTU & PPIP magazine

Organised by the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union (KPTU) and its research arm, the Public Policy Institute for People (PPIP), this publication aims to highlight a growing global trend of (re)municipalisation and various efforts and strategies adopted by trade unions and social movements to strengthen public services including energy, health care and transport.

This issue of The Future is Public brings you the debates and discussions from the International Symposium on Public Renewable Energy. It features the views and presentations of several speakers, including Sean Sweeney, coordinator at Trade Unions for Energy Democracy; Patrick Robbins from the New York Energy Democracy Alliance; and Ryan Morrison from the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC). Rich in data and analysis, their contributions highlight the importance of public renewable energy and the cross-border struggles to reclaim it.

The issue also showcases the determined fight of the Mexican Electrical Workers’ Union (SME) for energy sovereignty and a democratic energy future. SME has long advocated for the re-nationalisation of the electricity industry, the recognition of energy as a human right, and the implementation of a just and democratic energy transition.

In addition to the main articles, there are various sectoral articles on Health, Pension, and Transport. One such article offers an urgent reflection on South Korea’s healthcare crisis, as the commodification of care reaches a critical breaking point. The issue also carries book and movie reviews.
