The study looks at the relationship between privatisation and loans from International Financial Institutions (IFIs) in India, uncovering the adverse impacts on labour, access to services, and internal democracy in the region.

Combined with downsizing, contractualisation, and the introduction of measures like user fees, the poor have particularly suffered as a result of privatisation. The study also suggests feasible policy measures to counter privatisation in South Asia in general, stressing the need for a strong political agenda.
