Strengthening Union Capacitiy to Address Harassment and Violence in the World of Work
The project has widened to strengthen the capacity of PSI affiliates in Egypt and Tunisia to address violence and harassment in the workplace, with a focus on gender-based violence. It seeks to equip union leaders with the necessary knowledge and tools, establish workplace mechanisms for protection and victim support, and enhance trade unions' recognition as key social actors advocating for policy change.
So far, the project has built trade union leadership capacity, enhanced advocacy efforts, and fostered alliances with civil society organizations. Furthermore, trade unions have lead annual campaign actions on November 25 and March 8 to raise awareness and mobilize workers in the fight against gender-based violence, with media and social media campaigns amplifying their message. Despite political and economic challenges, unions have actively engaged in policy discussions, raised awareness on C190, and developed support mechanisms for workers facing violence and harassment.
In 2025 the project will include PSI affiliates in Iraq. Beneficiaries of the project are women workers affected by workplace violence and trade unionists. By promoting gender-responsive workplace policies and social dialogue, the project seeks to create safer and more inclusive working environments while reinforcing trade unions' role as key social actors in advancing labour rights and gender equality.
Project Activities and Stories
PSI unions from Tunisia, Egypt, and Iraq have united to tackle lased violence (GBV) and harassment in the workplace. This initiative, supported by FNV Mondiaal, has made good progress in Egypt and Tunisia and with Iraq joining the program in 2025, our reach and impact are set to expand even further.
