Strengthening public services and public finances for a just and equitable transition

The climate crisis continues to have a devastating impact across all regions. This impact is made worse in the absence of quality public services, when communities lack access to services, or when public sector infrastructure is insufficient or not well maintained. This project aims to strengthen the capacity of trade unions to advocate for quality public services that can mitigate against, and adapt to, the climate crisis, as part of a Just Transition to a more resilient and sustainable future, which places a more just and equitable society at its centre.

It aims to focus on different public services in each country which are either key to mitigation or adaptation in that country. This focus is two-fold – to draw on workers’ knowledge and experience to adapt the service in a way that both reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also protects communities from the worst ravages of climate change; and to ensure that these services are being delivered through decent jobs, which take into account the impact of climate change.
