Global Unions LGBTI Worker Rights
This project strengthens global trade unions' support for LGBTI workers amid growing hostility. Led by the Global Union LGBTI Working Group with PSI support, it promotes inclusion through education, advocacy, and alliance-building. Activities include seminars, a conference at ILGA World, and a Southern Africa workshop on ILO Convention 190. It fosters solidarity, boosts LGBTI representation, and advances equality, especially in the Global South.
This project strengthens the capacity of global trade unions to defend and advance the rights of LGBTI workers amidst increasing global hostility toward LGBTI rights. Coordinated by the Global Union LGBTI Working Group and supported by PSI, the project promotes LGBTI-inclusive unions and safe workplaces through awareness, advocacy, and alliance-building.
Key activities include an online seminar on LGBTI rights and freedom of association, a trade union conference at the ILGA World Conference in Cape Town, and a regional workshop in Southern Africa on ILO Convention 190 and LGBTI inclusion. The initiative fosters solidarity across unions, strengthens connections with civil society, and enhances representation of LGBTI issues in trade union spaces globally.
The project directly benefits trade unionists—particularly from the Global South—while contributing to a broader movement for equality, non-discrimination, and democratic trade union spaces.
