This initiative, supported by FORSA is a collaboration between PSI and Cape Town based Alternative Information and Development Centre (AIDC). The aim is to bring together trade union leaders, economists, and civil society representatives to address the threats of austerity and privatisation in South Africa. The project will offer deep analysis of the implications of austerity for public sector workers and services. Progressive alternatives will be explored, including fair taxation, public investment, and leveraging pension fund resources as well as strategies on defending the public sector wage bill as a cornerstone of quality public service delivery. The project aims to build union capacity, foster alliances, and promote collective action for economic justice. Beneficiaries include trade union leaders, civil society partners, and ultimately, the public sector workers and communities relying on equitable and accessible public services.
