Building public sector trade unionism in Mozambique

The project was developed when it became clear that the union will not be able to meet the requirements for registration as stipulated by Law Law 18/2014 on Unionisation in the public sector. This law which was passed in 2014 contains some clauses which have been making it very difficult for this union to get registered. The clauses require the union to collect notarised signatures from a high number of workers which should accompany the application for registration. Having seen the union struggling to collect these signatures, this project was conceptualised in order to assist the union to collect the required number of signatures so that it can submit its application for registration.

The project will benefit all public sector workers and their families who currently cannot negotiate their working conditions with the Government because the union is not recognised. The Mozambican society in general will also benefit from the improved service delivery that usually results from public sector workers who are satisfied with their working conditions.
