The meeting, attended by 172 international participants representing, amongst others, trade unions, government agencies, civil society organisations, TUSSOs, academia and media, discussed the challenges faced by sanitation workers in South Asia, particularly in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal and the efforts taken in organising initiatives. It also discussed about the importance of organizing, building union power, improving legal/institutional instruments and their implementation to protect the rights of these workers. The meeting highlighted the need for international solidarity and collaboration among trade unions and social partners to address the challenges faced by sanitation workers in the globalized economy. Recommendations were made for action towards ensuring visible change in the living and working condition of workers in sanitation sector.
