The conference aimed to examine the issues related to labour migration; to analyse the proposals from trade unions and governments to address the causes and consequences of labour migration; and to outline an action plan at the local, national and regional level.

On the first day of the conference, participants listened to a presentation by the State Migration Service about the Azeri government policy on migrants (either entering or leaving the country) and migration issues generally. This was followed by a group activity to share personal experiences and identify the similarities and differences in migration characteristics in various countries. The aim was to identify the challenges trade unions are facing when dealing with migration issues such as the reachability of the migrants (especially irregular migrants), the promotion of Equal Pay for Equal Work to prevent social dumping, the integration of migrant workers in their new country and the language barrier.

On the second day, the participants presented their approach, solutions and best practice to protect migrant workers from a national, regional or sectorial perspective.

The last part of the conference was a group activity to identify which actions in favour of migrant workers could be implemented in trade union organisations as part of an action plan for youth structures.
