Tunisia: Trade unions organise national campaign against fracking

The UGTT union in Tunisia is coordinating a national campaign against fracking.

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is the process of extracting natural gas from shale rock layers. Extraction uses massive quantities of water, and Tunisia suffers from serious water stress. Shale gas extraction uses 750 toxic toxic chemicals which pollutes groundwater and aquifers.

The UGTT have printed flyers and stickers, and have travelled to rural areas to discuss with community members, activists and leaders.
