Towards IAMRECON 2024: Inter-American subregions meet at SUBRACs

On Tuesday, November 12, the third day before IAMRECON 2024 opens, the Subregional Committees of PSI Inter-America met. Affiliates from the Andean countries, Brazil, Southern Cone, Caribbean, Central America and USA and Canada met in Bogota to discuss their respective problems and challenges.

In each SUBRAC, the sub-regions addressed crucial issues such as the casualization of labour, privatisation of public services, the effects of extreme right-wing policies on workers and attacks on labour rights. Committee members shared their experiences, concerns and views in order to seek common solutions to strengthen the collective struggle, achieve a unified position to present at IAMRECON 2024, and advance the implementation of PSI's proposed action plan.

In a region as diverse as Inter-America in terms of identity and languages, the coordinated work in sub-regions allows for closer regional work with affiliates. Thus, this discussion process allowed workers to reaffirm their commitment to the defense of their rights and the transformation of public services. Regional solidarithy is key to facing the great global challenges and to continue building a more just, democratic and equitable future for all.
