In honour of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2019, public sector trade unions marched through the streets of Manzini, Swaziland under the banner of “Equal Pay and Equal Opportunity for Women”. The march was attended by about 50 members from various trade unions and supporting civil society organisations. PSI Global Women’s Organising Committee chair, Comrade Irene Khumalo and PSI Sub-Regional Secretary, Comrade Tichaoana Fambisa were in attendance.

The march was in recognition of the hard work and struggle that women have face. It also stressed the urgency required to continue the struggle against patriarchy and gender discrimination in the workplace. NAWUSHI GS, Comrade Fundizwi Sikhonde highlighted the inequality women face in society and the need to abide by international and local governing laws and regulations in order to uphold gender rights. He added that as leaders and men in the trade union movement, they need to actively support women leadership within the trade union movement.
