Swaziland – public workers to march for fair salary increase

Public Services International sends its solidarity and support to its affiliates and all public sector workers in Swaziland. The workers were surprised and angered by a pay rise for government officials while their own claim for a salary was refused.

The workers will be marching to the Public Service Ministry and possibly to the Prime Minister’s Office on 24th October in protest against the government’s action.

The unions have been in negotiations with the government of Swaziland concerning their claim for a salary increase. The negotiations have reached a deadlock with the government insisting on 0%.

While the unions were waiting to go to arbitration because of the deadlock, the government declared a 32% salary increase for top government officials.

PSI will continue to monitor the situation in Swaziland.
