The PSIRU Summer School will welcome trade union leaders and representatives from PSI-affiliated organisations who:

• Are actively involved in campaigns for public ownership or against privatisation of public services.

• Represent trade unions in PSI sectors (Health, Care and Social Services, Local and Regional Government services, Utilities, Culture and Support Services, National Administrations, etc. )

• Can demonstrate they will feedback on the learnt skills to their union and implement concrete, action-oriented plans developed during the PSIRU Summer School week.

Date, Venue, Accommodation, Languages

The programme will take place in person only as follows:

• Dates: from 29th June to 6th July 2025

• Venue: University of Greenwich, Greenwich Campus, Old Royal Naval College, Park Row, London SE10 9LS, United Kingdom

• Languages: This first pilot programme will be held in ENGLISH only. No translation will be available on campus. Scholarship applicants need to be fluent in English.

• Accommodation: participants will lodge in single-room hotel accommodation within walking distance of the campus.

How to apply

Candidate participants will have to submit their application, which will be subject to a joint PSI-PSIRU selection committee review that will take into account – among others - gender, regional and PSI sectoral balance. PSI also encourages applications from young trade union leaders (under 35).

Please submit your application online by filling out the online form you can find HERE as soon as possible including

1. your CV outlining your trade union experience;

2. clear, concise, concrete replies to the following points:

   • Why you want to participate in the PSIRU Summer School 2025

   • A description of your current trade union work and involvement in pro-public campaigns and related industrial relations activities (please include concrete campaigns, re-municipalisation cases you have been involved in, collective agreements you have negotiated); ); or relevant actions your union may undertake in the near future.

PSI has secured eight (8) full board scholarships for trade unionists from PSI affiliates to take part in the PSIRU Summer School are available to cover:

• Accommodation and meals during the summer school.

• Travel and visa costs.

• Participation fees.

• Health and Travel insurance costs

Priority will be given to participants from the Global South. Applicants from the Global North are mostly welcome but are expected to secure funding from their organisations.

Participants wishing to take part in the PSIRU Summer School 2025 without full board scholarship can do so. However, they will have to go through an application and selection process and be approved by the PSI- PSIRU Summer School selection committee.

The full board cost of participation amounts to £700 (GBP) for the training (which includes lunch). Non-sponsored participants will have to meet their own accommodation, travel and visa costs. The cost of the training will have to be received in full by PSIRU by 25th March 2025 at the latest to secure participation.
