PSI LGBT+ workers express solidarity to comrades in the US
To our brothers, sisters, and non-binary comrades of the PSI Affiliates in the United States of America
With deep concern, we have learned that some of Donald Trump’s first actions in office were to rollback diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies that were put in place to help the US government best serve underprivileged communities, and to directly attack transgender rights.
This action exemplifies the growing power of conservative and colonial forces within the U.S. represented in the government, an influence that resonates globally. It underscores the urgent need for us, as members of the working class, to stand united in our shared struggle for equality and human dignity.
We recognise that this regressive policy shift will profoundly affect the design and delivery of public services in the U.S., particularly in health and education. The consequences will disproportionately impact the LGBT+ community, as well as Black, Hispanic, Native American, Asian American, and Pacific Islander populations. These effects will be further compounded by intersections of class, gender, and migrant status—directly affecting many of our union members.
Our solidarity is with you all. We remain committed to supporting your resistance and affirming that the rights we enjoy today are the hard-won victories of countless struggles by our predecessors.
Looking forward to standing with you in the fight!
