EB-165 PSI Executive Board adopts Resolutions Supporting Workers in Bolivia, Kenya, and Haiti
PSI strongly condemns the recent coup attempts and destabilization efforts in Bolivia, urging the international community to defend democracy and respect the country's constitution. The resolution underlines the importance of maintaining social peace and following the legitimate government elected through democratic means.
PSI welcomes the withdrawal of the Finance Bill in Kenya but reiterates recommendations for tax reform and support for health workers, emphasizing the need for a fair tax burden on multinationals and the wealthy to finance public services. The resolution also condemns the attack on Dr. Davji Attellah and calls for international support for Kenyan health professionals facing violence and resource shortages while caring for protestors.
Regarding Haiti, PSI EB-165 expresses deep concern over the severe violence and instability caused by armed gangs. Criticizing military interventions and urging for funds to be directed toward rebuilding public services instead.
PSI called on the international community to protect the rights and safety of displaced persons and advocated for the full involvement of the trade union movement in national stabilization efforts, emphasizing the disastrous impact of previous foreign interventions.
