PSI deeply regrets the passing of Oscar Rodriguez, Subregional Secretary for Central America and Mexico

Public Services International (PSI), on behalf of its General Secretary, Daniel Bertossa, regional secretary, Euan Gibb, Jocelio Drummound and his entire team, deeply regrets the passing of the sub-regional secretary for Central America and Mexico, Oscar Rodríguez León, on January 21, 2025, in the city of San José, Costa Rica.

Oscar Rodríguez León was a prominent trade union leader in Costa Rica, and was recognised for his work in Central America, Mexico and throughout Latin America. León has supported public service workers at Public Services International (PSI) for 33 years with great dedication, commitment, generosity and a deep sense of solidarity.

From PSI, we join all the voices that have been expressed on this day to honor his memory and thank him for his invaluable legacy. Oscar was a dear brother and a person we deeply respected and admired. His sudden departure leaves a huge void in our hearts and in our organization.

In this moment of pain, where words seem not to be enough, we also want to express our solidarity with his family with the entire trade union movement in Costa Rica and with our affiliates in Central America and Mexico.

On behalf of all of Oscar's colleagues and comrades in PSI, especially those in Inter-America, we say that Oscar will live on in our memories and that his legacy will serve as an inspiration to move forward with the commitment and passion that he always demonstrated.
