Social mobilization PSI Affiliates in the Americas demonstrate their support for the October 25th plebiscite in Chile

Trade union organizations affiliated to Public Services International (PSI) in Interamerica express their unreserved support for the constituent process that the people of Chile are currently undergoing This process is unprecedented in its history. It originated in the social explosion of October 2019 which demands profound changes to the political, economic and social systems imposed by the dictatorship and that have been deepened since the return to democracy.

We call on the trade union, social and political organizations of Chile to complement their efforts to draw up a new constitution, born of the people, which enshrines unwavering respect for human rights and the recognition of political, social, cultural, labour and trade union rights which are indispensable for the consolidation of a true democracy and the collective construction of decent conditions for all its inhabitants.

To this end, it is essential to achieve recognition of the key role that the State must play in national development, strengthening its institutions, in order to deliver quality public services that promote the universal and integral improvement of the living conditions of all its citizens.
