Now is the Time to invest in a Public Transport Future for All

Public Transport Global Coalition launches statement today at the People’s Summit during COP26 Transport Day in Glasgow calling on governments to prioritise sustainable long-term investment in public transport to halt the climate breakdown.

Following its support to the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and C40 Cities “The Future is Public Transport” campaign in favour of equitable public transport access for all, PSI is joining the ITF, Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI), the International Trade Union Federation (ITUC), the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), as well as mayors of some of the largest world’s cities and civil society at Glasgow’s COP26 calling on the world’s governments to prioritise sustainable long-term investment in public transport to halt the climate breakdown.

In the Public Transport Global Coalition Statement launched today at the People’s Summit during COP26 Transport Day in Glasgow, mayors, unions, transport authorities, regulators and partners all call on national governments to collectively double public transport journeys in cities by 2030 and advance a just transition to zero-emissions public transport to meet their climate goals and limit global heating to 1.5°C. Transport is currently responsible for a quarter of all global CO2 emissions. As electric vehicles are the focus of the COP26 Transport Day, mayors and union leaders warn public transport must not be forgotten.
