National Nurses United Condemns Trump Degree Exclusion

The US Department of Education has recently decided to exclude nursing as a "professional degree" programme, which will limit nurses' access to education by restricting student loan funding.

Limiting nursing students' access to education will only worsen nursing shortages, which are widespread across the country and impact the delivery of healthcare services ultimately threatening patient care.

Mary Turner, president of National Nurses United and member union of PSI, said that “If the Trump administration truly wanted to support nurses, it would be working to improve working conditions, expanding education opportunities, and ensuring patients can get health care. Instead, this administration is stripping nurses of their union rights, making education harder to access, and cutting health care for those who need it most.”

PSI supports our member unions in their demands to the US government to invest in nursing, make healthcare services accessible, work with unions to improve working conditions and tackle persistent nursing shortages.
