The General President, Brother R. Sadien, addressed participants emphasising the importance for one and all to take responsibility for the elimination of all forms of violence. “Violence against women is violence against human rights.  Public sector workers need to be empowered to promote gender equality and protect women against any form of violence” added R. Sadien

Mrs. M. Martin, Hon. Minister of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare, Chief Guest for the opening ceremony, addressed participants and reported on the work carried out by the Ministry, including a specialised unit for psychological assistance and education, in support of the victims of domestic or other forms of violence. Other guest speakers included a sociologist, from the University of Mauritius and a psychologist from the Ministry.
