The information leaflet issued to PSEU members is a follow up to the outcome of that survey.

Speaking about the reasons behind the initiative Billy Hannigan of PSEU said:

“As a Union we will not tolerate any of our members being subjected to unfair or discriminatory treatment because of their race, ethnic background or nationality. Any member who feels they are being treated unfairly in this way will have the advice and support of the Union.”

“Furthermore, as providers of public services our members have a special responsibility to ensure that all of the clients and customers of those public services are treated equally in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the schemes and programmes they seek to access. Nobody should be treated differently because of their race, ethnic background or nationality.”

The Union’s leaflet, which was co-funded and supported by the Equality Authority and has the support of the Immigrant Council of Ireland, offers guidance to members who may experience  racist behaviour towards themselves in the workplace as well as offering guidance as to the steps members can take if they encounter racism towards others while at work.
