Iraq: Electricity unions fight for their wages

Following a decision taken in Parliament to not include temporary electricity workers in the loan law, thousands of Iraqi workers in the electricity sector are at risk of being deprived of their salaries. PSI supports the Electricity unions' struggle and calls on the Parliamentary Committee of Finance to revise its decision related to the freezing of the salaries and the contract fees for all workers and mainly those working in the ministry of energy.

In a statement published last Saturday electricity unions in the country, including PSI affiliate the Union of Engineering and Technical Professions South Electricity Sector (UETPSES), denounce this unfair decision and call on workers to unite and defend their rights.
