Health workers in Nigeria commemorate World Humanitarian Day
PSI affiliates participated as critical stakeholders in the planning and execution of this year’s national commemoration, chaired by the Honorable minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouk.
Further to this, PSI affiliates in the health sector mobilized their members who conducted, on 20th August 2021, free voluntary medical services to women and children within the IDP camp. They used the medium to educate the women on the need to get the Covid-19 vaccine and do away with any conspiracy theory. In addition, PSI produced a Covid-19 vaccine awareness creation video, and an audio jingle was launched at a press briefing immediately after the outreach. Comrade Sani Baba, the PSI Regional Secretary for Africa and the Arab region, presented copies of the video and audio jingle to the Nigerian National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and IDPs (NCFMRI) during the event.
During the press conference, comrades also used the platform to advocate for a WTO waiver on Covid-19 products.
