Health PhD Scholarship: Mapping privatised healthcare markets

PSI is offering a three year scholarship for a PhD researcher, starting mid 2021, to make a significant contribution to research to better understand how private health providers are expanding into global healthcare.

Using a collaborative research approach the researcher will build an evidence base to support practical strategies to oppose the negative effects of this growth.

The successful candidate will join the Public Services International Research Unit (PSIRU) in the Centre for Research on Employment and Work (CREW) at the University of Greenwich Business School, but will work closely with Public Services International – the global public services union – and produce regular outputs as agreed by the team.

The role will link to PSI’s global program, ‘Reclaiming hope: building renewed belief in public services for a just COVID19 recovery’ and work with PSI’s health, trade union rights and economic justice programmes and regional staff.

Candidates will understand the political economy of healthcare and public services and may have experience in and knowledge of the global trade union movement or civil society advocacy. Candidates will be experienced in empirical and qualitative research methods and be data literate.

We prefer candidates with an interest in mixed methods and interdisciplinary approaches. Experience in financial structure analysis, social network analysis or union power analysis or an interest in these fields is an advantage. Your research will be expected to culminate with a PhD dissertation after three years.
