Haitian unions fear a return to dictatorship

For more than a year, the Haitian people have been protesting against President Jovenel Moïse. PSI's affiliate in Haiti, the Confederation of Public and Private Sector Workers (CTSP), and the Haitian Workers Confederation (CTH) have issued a report detailing the current political situation.

For more than a year the Haitian people have been protesting against President Jovenel Moïse. Trade unionists have loudly denounced the humanitarian and democratic crisis in the country. In a year when all Haitians, at home and abroad, should have been celebrating the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Duvalier regime, they are forced to denounce the fact that there is another dictator among them.

PSI's affiliate in Haiti, the Confédération des travailleurs/euses des Secteurs Public et Privé (CTSP), and the CTH (Confédération des Travailleurs Haïtiens) have published a report detailing the current political situation.

"The legal and political situation in the country is catastrophic. Currently, there are only ten (10) elected members of the Senate of the Republic and the de facto government authorities, including former President Jovenel MOISE, who staged a coup d'état on the country's Constitution since 7 February 2021 and who illegally monopolizes all of Haiti's public administration".

"The Confederation of Haitian Workers (CTH) and the Confederation of Public and Private Sector Workers (CTSP) ask for your support in sharing these facts in your exchanges with other international bodies for a better understanding of the untenable situation that the Haitian people are currently experiencing."
