Over 20 organisations, including PSI, endorsed a public declaration of solidarity that ran in El Salvador’s largest newspaper on International Workers’ Day (see the printed version here - in Spanish)

Unfortunately, the US Embassy was unrelenting in its pressure on the Salvadoran Legislative Assembly and a Public Private Partnerships Law was passed on May 24 – though not the original version (read more here).
 
Thanks to the Salvadoran labor movement’s clear rejection of privatisation and to international solidarity, the leftist FMLN party was able to negotiate some important changes to the bill, most notably that essential public services like water, health care, education, prisons and public security were exempted, which is a huge victory!
