Solidarity with the people of Sudan
Public Services International (PSI) Executive Board:
RECOGNISING the devastating impact of the ongoing war in Sudan on civilians, particularly women and children, and
ACKNOWLEDGING the critical role played by emergency workers, public sector employees, and journalists who continue to serve their communities in the midst of violence and humanitarian crisis;
RECALLING the principles of international solidarity, social justice, and peace enshrined in the Constitution of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the values of the global trade union movement;
REAFFIRMING that peace, democracy, and respect for human and workers’ rights are inseparable, and that armed conflict destroys not only lives but also the foundations of decent work, equality, and social protection;
RESOLVES to:
EXPRESS full solidarity with the Sudanese people—especially women, children, frontline emergency workers, public sector employees, and journalists—who continue to endure immense suffering as a result of the ongoing conflict.
CONDEMN in the strongest terms all forms of violence against civilians, the destruction of public infrastructure, and the deliberate targeting of hospitals, schools, workplaces, and media institutions.
CALL for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and the initiation of inclusive peace negotiations that prioritize the protection of civilians, human rights, and the restoration of democratic governance.
RECOGNISE and support the heroic role of frontline emergency workers, health professionals, teachers, water and sanitation workers, and journalists who continue to provide essential public services despite personal risk.
AFFIRM the right of Sudanese workers to organize freely and to participate in peacebuilding, reconstruction, and decision-making processes without fear of persecution.
APPEAL to the international trade union movement—through the PSI, ITUC, GUFs, and regional bodies—to intensify solidarity actions, humanitarian support, and advocacy for peace and workers’ rights in Sudan.
ENCOURAGE all affiliates to contribute to humanitarian appeals supporting Sudanese civilians, especially initiatives led by women’s organizations, public service unions, and independent media.
CALL upon international institutions and donor governments to prioritize the rebuilding of Sudan’s public services, ensure the protection and fair treatment of Sudanese refugees and internally displaced persons, and reject austerity measures that would undermine recovery and social justice.
COMMIT to sustained advocacy for accountability for war crimes and gender-based violence, and for the protection of journalists and human rights defenders documenting abuses.
We stand firmly with the people and workers of Sudan.
We reaffirm that peace, democracy, gender equality, and strong public services are the only path to a just and sustainable future.
MOVED by Prince Peters Adeyemi, PSI Vice-President for Africa and Arab Countries.
