Report by Hernán Doval, new Secretary General of CONTRAM PSI Inter-America
In his inauguration speech as CONTRAM-PSI General Secretary, Hernan Doval emphasized the importance of strengthening LRG/municipal workers' union power in the region. Doval is the author of “About labour terror”, a 2017 book where he documents and denounces the reality of the working conditions of municipal workers in the Avellaneda council. Doval succeeds former CTM (Argentina) General Secretary Rubén "Cholo" García, who held the CONTRAM-PSI General Secretary position for the previous two terms.
Created in 2014 in Mexico, the CONTRAM gathers local and regional government (LRG)/Municipal workers unions in Latin America and the Caribbean, to specifically work and advance PSI’s global LRG/Municipal priorities for the sector in the region and to collectively address the specific challenges LRG workers face in the Latin American region. A pre-condition to joining the CONTRAM is that member unions are full PSI members. CONTRAM is a part of PSI’s Global LRG Global Network, the global sectoral network of LRG unions affiliated to PSI.
