APRECON 2025 APRECON 2025: United to Fightback for Public Services

Public service workers are under attack — from austerity, privatisation, debt, and the unchecked power of corporations and billionaires. While they keep communities running during crises, their rights, entitlements and dignity are being stripped away. Across Asia and the Pacific, workers face unsafe conditions, job cuts, and repression. The 15th Asia Pacific Regional Conference (APRECON 2025) is taking place in this context and will provide direction for a united fightback.

The Asia Pacific Regional Conference (APRECON 2025), organised by Public Services International (PSI), will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal from 9–11 September 2025, with pre-APRECON sessions on 8 September. This gathering will bring together trade unionists, activists, and allies from across the region to chart a bold course for defending and advancing public services.
Continuing PSI's fightback campaign, the theme of the Conference is "United to Fightback for Public Services." In this era of increased inequality and suppression of workers and Trade Union Rights, this is the most apt slogan and theme that will guide all the discussions and sessions.
The conference will begin with pre-APRECON sessions on 8 September, where participants will focus on some of the most dynamic areas of movement-building: the voices and leadership of young workers, the struggles and rights of LGBTQ+ communities, the experiences and rights of Indigenous workers, and the urgent need for energy and climate justice. These sessions will set the tone for the days ahead, ensuring that often marginalised voices are placed at the centre of regional strategies.
From 9-11 September, APRECON will move into plenary discussions and thematic workshops that reflect the key challenges facing workers and trade unions today. Participants will deliberate on strategies to defend trade union rights, resist the growing tide of privatisation, and push for tax and economic justice. Sessions will also explore the intersections of gender equality, digitalisation, migration, and climate action—issues that are reshaping work, services, and societies across the world, including Asia and the Pacific.
PSI is committed to respecting the integrity of every person and to providing a safe and respectful environment for all participants, free from violence and harassment. We have established a mechanism to address such issues, which is outlined in our Violence and Harassment Guidelines.
APRECON is more than just a conference; it is a platform for building collective strength. With over 300 participants expected, the event will provide opportunities for solidarity, strategy-sharing, and concrete action. At a time when corporate power and austerity policies are eroding public services, APRECON 2025 will reaffirm the power of unions to lead change and ensure that quality, accessible public services remain a fundamental right for all.
