ANMC Strategy Development & Leadership Meeting

ANMC and PSI Convene in Accra to Set the Strategic Direction for a United African Nurses and Midwives Movement. Leaders meet to define vision, values, and priorities for 2026–2030, strengthen membership and partnerships, and lay the groundwork for sustainable continental leadership in nursing and midwifery.

The Africa Nurses and Midwives Confederation (ANMC) is a new continental organisation established to unify and strengthen nursing and midwifery leadership and professional organisation across Africa. With interim regional leadership in place, the next crucial step is consolidating the Confederation’s strategic foundation and long-term vision. To support this institutional development, ANMC and Public Services International (PSI) organised a two-day strategy development and leadership meeting in Accra, Ghana.

The strategic meeting brought together key leaders to:

•  Define the long-term vision for the Confederation

•  Agree on organisational values and mission

•  Develop strategic priorities for 2026–2030

•  Finalise a membership growth and partnership strategy, and

•  Lay the foundation for resource mobilisation and governance.

Strategic Visioning and Identity

Day one focuses on defining the Confederation’s identity and future direction.

Sessions are designed to bring clarity and alignment among leaders on:

•  The context and history of collective organising in the sector

•  Current opportunities and challenges facing nurses and midwives in Africa

•  A shared vision for a unified regional voice

•  The Confederation’s mission and core values

Institutional Work-plan

Day two focuses on turning the strategic vision into a workable institutional plan.

Key components include:

•  Defining the Confederation’s strategic priorities for 2026-2030

•  Designing a regional membership and value-proposition strategy

•  Identifying partnership opportunities and resource-mobilisation pathways

•  Outlining next steps for implementation and follow-up

The meeting closed with structured reflection and commitments from leaders and PSI. The outcome of the meeting includes:

•  A draft strategic framework for 2026–2030

•  A clear membership strategy and value proposition

•  An initial resource mobilisation and partnership roadmap

•  Strengthened leadership alignment and organisational direction

These outputs lay the institutional foundation for ANMC’s establishment as a sustainable continental voice for nurses and midwives.

This leadership meeting is a high-impact, low-cost intervention that enables:

•  Pan-African professional leadership and organising

•  Greater influence on the health workforce and health policy

•  Stronger governance and sustainability for ANMC

•  African-led solutions to health workforce challenges

Investment in this meeting directly contributes to building a resilient continental health workforce and advancing regional health system strengthening.
