Since the historical adoption of the ILO Convention 190 (C190) and Recommendation 206 (R206) on 21 June 2019, the ITUC, the Global Union Federations and their affiliates and allied civil society organisations have initiated campaigns and build coalitions in dozens of countries across the world aimed at the ratification of C190 and its effective implementation, in line with R206. Since then,  9 countries have ratified C190 and over 20 countries are in a process to do so.

The ILO instruments enshrine the right for everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment, including gender-based violence and harassment. The instruments contain comprehensive provisions to prevent, mitigate and eliminate violence and harassment in the world of work. They apply  to all workers, whether they work in the private or public sectors, in the formal and informal economy, and whether in urban or rural areas.
