PSI is co-organising, with CICTAR and the South Centre, a briefing about how governments, tax authorities and trade unions in the Global South can use new data soon to be published from public country-by-country reporting (CBCR).
Public CBCR has long been one of PSI’s principal tax transparency demands. Thanks to a campaign led by our affiliates, Australia recently passed legislation to force multinational to publish key data about their finances and taxes. This information will be accessible to anyone in the world, meaning tax inspectors and unions in the Global South will be able to use it to claw back tax dodged by corporations. The country-specific data will also help unions organising in multinational companies.
The briefing will be held online 6 May 2025 (11:30 to 13:30 CEST). It is aimed at those working in tax administrations and their unions. Trade unionists with some experience of tax campaigning are also very welcome.

Background
The Australian parliament recently passed the world’s most ambitious public Country by Country Reporting (CBCR) framework in Australia, through which Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) will have to publicly declare how much tax they pay and in which countries. Companies in-scope of the EU’s public CBCR directive will also soon begin to publish public CBCR data. Combined with existing datasets, such as the Taxplorer by the EU Tax Observatory and Data for Good, this information will provide a valuable source for tax authorities across the Global South who struggle with the opacity of foreign MNEs.
Purpose
To inform Global South governments on benefits of and possibility to implement pCbCR at the national level, to push for pCbCR via the UN Tax Convention, to educate on the possible use of forthcoming pCbCR data from Australia, EU and existing voluntary compliance.
Audience
Tax Officials from South Centre member states and the G77+China, PSI Affiliates in tax administrations
