On 18 February 2026, WHO/Europe launch a new policy brief on safe nurse staffing, addressing one of the most urgent challenges facing health systems and the nursing workforce across Europe. EPSU is partner of this project.

Unsafe staffing levels are putting patients at risk and driving nurses out of the profession. The new brief brings together global evidence and real-world experience from 21 EU Member States, under the EU-funded Nursing Action project, setting out why safe nurse staffing is essential not only for quality and safety of care, but also for workforce wellbeing, retention and resilient health systems.
