Public service sector workers are often the first to know about threats or harm to public interest, and in that capacity play a key role in exposing wrongdoings and safeguarding the well-being of society and economies.
Yet Whistle-blower protections, at all levels and across countries are often not fit for purpose and discourage workers engaging their union for support to make a disclosure.
Recently Michael Tull (CPSU) represented the Asia-Pacific region at an ILO meeting which recognised whistle blower protection as part of the ILO mission and mandate, and provides scope to push for a binding standard going forward.
This workshop is an opportunity to hear from Whistle-blowing experts from civil society and discuss opportunities to further a public sector union agenda:
Speakers include:
Tom Devine, Legal Director of Government Accountability Project (USA)
Clancy Moore, CEO, Transparency International Australia
Camilo Rubiano, Trade Union Rights Officer, PSI
Maddy Northam, ACT Regional Secretary
Meeting Room 108
