PSI delegation at the Fourth Session of the Plastic Treaty negotiation

The fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC-4) will take place from 23 to 29 November 2023 at the Shaw Center in Ottawa, Canada.

Together with IndustriALL (plastic production), IUF (plastic use) and the ITUC, PSI is leading on this international negotiation as part of the Workers and Trade Unions UN Major Group representing waste collection, disposal and sanitation and related public service workers engaged in the fight against plastic waste pollution.
The PSI delegation includes individuals with expertise and firsthand experience in waste management. Among them are a representative from AGOEC, the union representing waste workers at the public waste facility in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as members from the Canadian Union of Public Employees. Additionally, the PSI Local and Regional Government Officer will be present to provide insights and policy perspectives.

PSI has already contributed to the second (INC-2) and third session (INC-3) of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC-2), from 29 May to 2 June 2023 at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Headquarters in Paris, France, and to the PSI’s contributions and resourced to INC-2 are available here.
