Online event: 23 June 2020, 9:00-10:30am (EST)
United Nations Public Service Day, celebrated on 23 June each year, recognizes the value and virtue of public service to the community; highlights the contribution of public service in the development process; recognizes the work of public servants, and encourages young people to pursue careers in the public sector.
More than ever, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the necessity of robust, responsive and effective public service delivery and the critical role of frontline public servants such as healthcare workers, transit and sanitation workers, educators, law enforcement and others.
On 23 June the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) together with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety of the Republic of Korea is organizing a virtual event to pay homage to these public servants and the lifesaving work they have undertaken during the Pandemic. The event will also shine a spotlight on the critical role of public service delivery and public services in times of pandemic, examining the various approaches and challenges countries have taken during the crisis while looking at what measures they are undertaking to better mitigate such challenges in the future.
