  • Brussels

Public Services International, in cooperation with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Global Union Federations, is organizing a “Global Unions Strategy Meeting on Labour Migration: Building Alternatives” on 24-25 September 2012 in Brussels, Belgium.

The objective of the meeting is to agree on concrete ways of responding to the current policy agenda that promotes migration without rights and to propose alternatives underpinned by the decent work agenda. The strategy meeting will be organised along four areas listed below. For each of these areas, the participants will share their knowledge and national experience and define together a global strategy to be developed at international, regional and national level.

Areas of focus:

- Realising the rights of migrant workers

- Challenging the current global governance of migration

- Organising migrant workers in trade unions

- The role of cross borders recruitment agencies

This meeting is open to affiliates who are interested in participating and contributing to the development of our global trade union movement strategy on labour migration.

Please note that PSI does not provide sponsorship to this meeting.  However, if you are interested to participate, please let the secretariat know by contacting Genevieve Gencianos, Coordinator of PSI’s Migration Programme, genevieve.gencianos@world-psi.org, phone +33 4 50401214, so we can help facilitate your visa and hotel booking.

Kindly inform us no later than Monday, 17 September 2012, should you wish to participate.

I also take this opportunity to remind you that there will be a pre-Congress PSI Migration Seminar and Workshop on 22-23 November 2012 in Durban, South Africa. The seminar will culminate our migration campaign activities in the last Congress period, exchange best practices and outcomes, analyze new challenges, and build the new migration action plan for the next Congress period 2013-2017. Participation in the seminar is open to all affiliates. You can indicate your interest to participate when you do the registration for Congress. The seminar will be conducted in English and Spanish.

In solidarity,
