2025 Caribbean SUBRAC (Online)
- 23 Sep - 24 Sep
- Caribbean
15:00 - 18:00 CDT
3:00 pm to 6:00 pm (in the Eastern Caribbean)
The Caribbean Sub-regional Advisory Committee (SUBRAC) meets annually. The SUBRAC is a PSI advisory body comprising representatives from affiliates who “facilitate the consultation process at sub-regional level on policy issues and work programme implementation, and who participate in exchange and dialogue on issues relevant to PSI affiliates.”
The meeting will include presentations as well as plenary discussions. These meetings are strategic and have an education element, seeking to increase participants’ knowledge and understanding of key issues. Using information from participants, an important part of the meeting is to highlight emerging trends and help affiliates be proactive in dealing with issues that they face.
In accordance with PSI's policy at least 50% of those attending the SUBRAC must be women. PSI also promotes at least 30% representation by young workers, respecting the 50% rule.
Hybrid format for 2025
In 2025 Caribbean affiliates have organised the SUBRAC as an online meeting spread over two afternoons/evenings.
Virtual sub-regional meetings allow for more people to attend and participate than would be the case for in-person meetings where attendees would have to incur travel and accommodation costs.
There is of course great value when members meet each other and can interact in person.
Caribbean affiliates have made the necessary arrangements to gather key members at various leadership levels at union branch offices and headquarters from where those present can then join the Zoom meeting. This year’s sub-regional meetings present a unique opportunity for more members to be involved and for affiliates to further build solidarity.
With a focus on the importance of evidence-based arguments that promote the rights-based approach, the meeting seeks to Inform, Educate and Motivate/Inspire committee members.
