PSI stands in solidarity with Christchurch after right-wing terrorist attack

Over 40 people have been murdered in Christchurch, New Zealand after a right-wing gunman attacked two mosques. Public service workers and first responders dealt with over 100 casualties and saved dozens of lives.

From Glenn Barclay and Kerry Davies, national secretaries of the New Zealand Public Service Association

We are all shocked and reeling from the events in Christchurch yesterday (Friday 15 March).

Standing together in unity to express our values of compassion and love is important now.

The PSA  expresses our condolences and solidarity with the Muslim community.

We voice our values of unity and collectivity to embrace and support our sisters and brothers across our diverse communities.

We also acknowledge those working within emergency and support services dealing with both their own personal emotions and demanding work situation.

Each one of us will also want to demonstrate support and solidarity with the Muslim community within our local neighbourhoods. Standing together now with expressions of love and kindness against hate is a strong act we can all do.

Rosa Pavanelli, PSI General Secretary said:

"We stand in solidarity with the brave workers who put their lives on the line to save citizens from this brutal hate-crime and with the families of those murdered. You are all in the thoughts of public service workers around the world."
