Since its founding congress in 2008, the CTSP has demonstrated its intent on being a model, modern trade union organisation, fighting for social justice, trade union rights and strong, quality public services in Haïti. “CTSP has gained an important place in the trade union landscape in Haïti. But there is still a long way to go towards achieving our goals”, says Bro Fatal. “We are on the way to a stronger, more dynamic and more effective CTSP”. Fatal called on delegates to recognise and support the important role of women and young people in achieving that goal.

Delegates debated and made proposals for action on strengthening vital public services (especially transportation, energy, education, water and sanitation, health, housing) as well as respect for human and trade union rights, gender equality, youth issues, the informal economy and the rights of migrants.

Delegates agreed to a strategy for the new triennium that seeks to:

• strengthen institutional capacity;
• embark on a dynamic training programme;
• promote a greater involvement of women in structures and in decision-making;
• promote greater involvement of young people;
• increase and strengthen the CTSP’s membership and financial base;
• build stronger international partnerships;
• build strategic alliances.

CTSP has committed to working for quality public services. In the new triennium, the confederation will focus much of its energy on building the strength and capacity of young members.
