The Human Right to Peace: Women, Labour and Public Services in Conflict Zones

  • 14 Mar - 14 Mar
  • 10th floor of the Church Center for the United Nations, New York, USA

Democracy and Peace are fundamental pillars of economic empowerment of women in the changing world of work. In conflict zones, public services and public service women workers are in the frontline of delivering safety and security to vulnerable populations in which women and girls are the majority. Women workers are at the same time exposed to unsafe conditions of work when public services are underfunded. Women trade unionists and women social leaders in conflict zones have a role to play in building hope.

Speakers:

  • Carlos Villán Durán- SSIHRL : Declaration on the Right to Peace
  • Lois A. Herman-WUNRN: Women & the Human Right to Peace
  • Juneia Batista-CUT Brazil/PSI-WOC : Gender-based violence and war
  • Yamina Meghraoui SNAPAP Algeria/PSI & Jalila Al-Salman, BTU Bahrein/EI: The struggles of women in conflict zones

Followed by an open discussion on "alternatives of hope"
