For a Public Energy for France

Jan 31, 2022

The CSEC of EDF (France) is leading a campaign to influence the presidential debate by defending an exit from the electricity market and a nationalisation of EDF.

France EDF's Central Works Council warns of the link between rising electricity prices and the privatisation of the energy sector.

The general price reduction promised by opening to competition never took place. On the contrary, it has given way to a massive price increase.

Between 2006 and 2020, electricity tariffs increased by 60%.

Competition is not possible in a system that provides a basic human right, a basic necessity like energy.

Competition is not possible in a system that provides a basic human right, a basic necessity like energy. These kinds of dramatic fluctuations in prices and the serious problems they provoke need to be understood as symptoms. They are symptoms that indicate and confirm for us that the ideological efforts to impose a market logic into the provision of an essential public good do not work.

CSEC EDF is calling all French citizens to sign a petition to say NO to the privatisation of electricity. Affiliates are not being asked to sign the petition, however a letter of support or an email message would be welcome at [email protected] copy [email protected].
